Tom Lynch’s comments in today’s Mercury are a slap in the face to regional Tasmanian communities.
Mr Lynch has once again opposed the MRT move to Burnie, saying, “A lot of professional people are reticent to move into the regions.”*
Mr Lynch is obviously spending too much time in Salamanca with his good friend, Hobart based member for Braddon Bryan Green, who also bizarrely opposes jobs being created in Burnie.
Our number one priority is jobs and our Plan is working, with employment in the North West is at its highest level ever with 51,300 people employed, up 2,500 since the election.
Importantly, the areas of our economy that are showing growth, such as tourism, resources and agriculture, all have strong connections to our regional and rural communities, which will help drive economic development and job creation right around the State.
Moving MRT to Burnie is good for the North West and good for the mining industry. The election result shows there is overwhelming community support for our Plan, which is also strongly supported by the mining industry and Tasmanian Minerals and Energy Council.
Tom Lynch might think he’s the opposition leader but if he keeps talking down job prospects in the North West, the real Labor Leader and Member for Braddon Bryan Green should grow a spine and stand up to the unions instead of selling out his own electorate.
