Today I officially launched WorkSafe Tasmania Month, which runs from 5 – 30 October.

The Month is part of a nationwide effort to raise awareness of work health and safety and reduce work-related injury, illness and death.

WorkSafe Tasmania Month has made a huge contribution to reducing workplace injuries.

This year, in addition to the traditional format of free face-to-face WHS information seminars, a range of free online learning options have been added and will run throughout the Month.

These online options include webinars, live streaming of interactive panels and video presentations by work health and safety professionals, business leaders and experts, and can be accessed from www.swa.gov.au.

Regardless of people’s working hours, or location, industry, business size or role in the workplace, there will be an option to suit everyone.

Topics for the Month range from mental health and wellbeing to culture change, to the challenges of the ageing workforce, farm safety to quitting smoking and reducing manual handling injuries.

Work health and safety within the State’s agricultural industry is also a central focus of a number of free sessions being offered during WorkSafe Month in Smithton and on King and Flinders Islands.

They will include talks and farm visits to show farmers practical ways to help manage safety on their farms and understand the requirements of the WHS legislation.

All sessions are outlined in The Program of Events for the Month which is available on the WorkSafe website at www.worksafe.tas.gov.au

It is vital that we all do our bit to make sure our workplaces are safe.
