The Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association has welcomed the tabling of the statewide planning reform legislation in State Parliament today.
TFGA CEO Peter Skillern said that the proposed scheme was a positive step forward in developing planning consistency across the State.
“Currently there is only 15 per cent planning consistency. This new scheme will lift that to a commendable 80 per cent across the State,’’ Mr Skillern said.
“This process will help to address the planning issues that have been an on-going constraint to the State’s rural sector for many years. The changes will assist in the expansion of agricultural production in Tasmania to $10 billion dollars by 2050.”
The TFGA looks forward to working closely with the State Government and local councils to ensure a smooth and seamless transition to the new statewide scheme.
