Anthony Bacon has a long background in still photography and got into multirotors in October 2014 with the aim of using one as an aerial tripod to get a different perspective. After buying an off the self model that proved unreliable, Anthony built himself a DJI F550 hexacopter (six motors) which is much more versatile and reliable. With a 3 axis gimbal, camera and FPV (first person view) controller, this one cost around $2000 and has had over 100 flights with no issues.

The footage in this video was captured over the last two months at various locations around Hobart.

Everyone that has approached Anthony while flying has been positive and curious about the craft.

Legally, UAV’s must fly under 120m and 30m away from buildings, vehicles and crowds and though capable of flying 2 km away, they must be kept within line of site. Anthony’s UAV carries a wide angle camera for landscapes and is not set up to spy on people.

A good friend with a pilot’s licence became involved at the same time and their aim is to do commercial work together in the near future. While they’ve been waiting for CASA to change the rules regarding commercial use, they’ve been honing their skills in both flying, capturing and editing video for fun. They have set up a website of their so-far non-commercial hobby experiences at tasview.com.
