Email sent to DVA.gov yesterday regarding Mr Nikolic and his ANZAC day newsletter
Good morning,
Could you please advise me if it is appropriate for my local member Andrew Nikolic, Federal Member for Bass, to be utilising the wording ANZAC and associated images in a commemorative newsletter that also has contact details and images of himself throughout (Download below).
I would have thought that ANZAC day and the commemorating of this day should be apolitical?
If Mr Nikolic and the Liberal Party wish to prompt such an important day this should be done in a way that is not self prompting.
I see no difference in this to what Woolworths has done in their advertisement/campaign ‘Fresh in our Memories (SMH here), unless of course you can advise me otherwise.
I look forward to your response.
Kind Regards,
Shane Rickerby

• Shane, in Comments: Barry thank you for your comment. I’m not offended by the content. Rather I’m concerned about the intent of Mr Nikolic. The newsletter contains important information about ANZAC day. However was the appropriate permission gained in this instance? Is Mr Nikolic using ANZAC day to promote his position? I think these are reasonable questions to ask.
