Australian Government Department of Human Services staff in Bridgewater have been recognised for their strong links and innovative work with their community.

Minister for Human Services Senator the Hon Marise Payne and Federal Member for Lyons Eric Hutchinson today visited the Bridgewater Centrelink Service Centre to meet with staff and acknowledge their contribution.

“Bridgewater staff play a very important role in ensuring families and individuals are aware of the community services and support available to them,” Minister Payne said.

The Bridgwater Centrelink Service Centre is part of a research project with RMIT University called “Making a Difference for Children and Families”. The three-year study aims to find innovative ways to improve the outcomes for families and individuals experiencing long-term and intergenerational welfare dependence.

“Many of our customers have complex needs and staff at Bridgewater have formed close ties with local community organisations and service providers to ensure people are connected with the service they need, when they need it,’’ Minister Payne said.

Federal Member for Lyons Eric Hutchinson said the Bridgewater Centrelink Service Centre is leading the way in providing a more tailored service delivery approach for the area.

“The feedback we are receiving from the community is that staff here respond well to the needs of their customers,” Mr Hutchinson said.

“While staff will always be available at the Bridgewater Centrelink Service Centre for those who require more personalised assistance, there are also options for busy people such as carers and families to manage their own government business.

“With online and digital services such as the Centrelink Express Plus mobile app, customers can connect with the government digitally, at a time and place that suits them.”
