The Tasmanian Liberal Government is pleased to welcome the AFL Masters National Carnival back to Tasmania, after a 15 year absence.

Through Events Tasmania, the Government has invested $35,000 to secure the largest football carnival in Australia.

In October 2015, Tasmania will host the AFL Masters National Carnival and for the first time ever it will be staged in two cities – Launceston and Hobart.

The carnival attracts over 42 teams of players from every state in Australia, which equates to around 1400 players, officials and family members travelling to Tasmania.

This represents a significant boost for the Tasmanian economy.

With the carnival beginning with games in Launceston and ending with games and a Gala Dinner in Hobart the economic benefits will be shared in both the North and South of the State.

For participants there is also the opportunity for them to stay on after the carnival to see more of Tasmania and what our State has to offer as a destination.

The Liberal Government has set a target to attract 1.5 million visitors to Tasmania each year by 2020, and the hosting of major events like the AFL Masters National Carnival will assist us in meeting that goal.

The AFL Masters National Carnival will coincide with the 150th anniversary of AFL in our State with AFL Tasmania closely involved in the event.
