The Liberal Government is committed to encouraging an active and healthy lifestyle to ensure a better future for all Tasmanians.
Our Government acted swiftly and appropriately to ensure more than $1.1 million in funding provided through the State Grants Program for sporting organisations continues next year.
This program was set to be slashed by more than a quarter under the previous Labor Green Government, which would have had a devastating impact on almost every sport from netball to touch football, athletics, soccer, golf and rowing.
We understand the importance of the State Grants Program and have ensured it continues to support our sport and recreation sector to provide opportunities to Tasmanians.
In 2013 the program provided more than $1.1 million to 35 of the state’s peak sporting organisations. It assisted more than 108,000 registered members, delivered nearly 500 courses and provided about 1,700 education and training opportunities.
These organisations employ more than 130 paid staff and collectively represent a workforce of more than 13,000 coaches and officials.
Applications for the 2015 program have opened and will close on October 15.
Organisations are encouraged to contact Communities, Sport and Recreation Tasmania before submitting applications through the State Grants Program.
