Labor Leader Bryan Green today accused the State Government of attempting to set up a Liberal slush fund by abolishing the independent Tasmanian Community Fund board.

“This is purely a political move to fund Liberal promises,” Mr Green said.

“There can be no other reason because the board is self funding; it costs the Government nothing to run.

“It is a deceitful move by a Government that bought its way into office with election promises it knew were unaffordable.

“Now the Liberals are trying to use the Tasmanian Community Fund to further pork barrel electorates around the State.

“Why else would Will Hodgman seek to bring the TCF under the control of the Department of Premier and Cabinet?

“These are taxpayer funds that have always been assessed by an independent board, free of political interference.

“Tasmanians have seen through the Liberals motives and are overwhelmingly calling on the Government to reverse its decision to get rid of the board.

“It’s time Will Hodgman listened and acted to ensure community funds are allocated fairly and on their merits.”
