The Liberal Government welcomes the expansion of Australia’s largest household hardware chain Bunnings in Tasmania as a further sign of renewed confidence in our economy.
Bunnings Warehouse is investing $38 million in a new store at the Hobart Showgrounds, to replace its existing Moonah warehouse.
During the construction phase more than 300 jobs will be created, and once the doors to the store open next year it will employ more than 230 staff, creating 120 new jobs.
This is part of a massive investment in our state by Bunnings, which will total $162 million and create 655 new jobs over a two year period across five warehouses.
We welcome the latest ABS figures which show retail trade was 8.7 per cent greater compared to the same time last year, and well above the national increase of 5.2 per cent.
While there is still some way to go, the signs are positive for Tasmania.
Will Hodgman, Premier
