The name Lauren is the Latin for the laurel plant. In mythology the laurel plant was sacred to Apollo and his priestesses chewed its leaves to become oracles and of course the ancient Greeks rewarded those that were successful in various endeavours were awarded with laurel leaves.

True to her name, musicianLaurenGlezer is something of an oracle in her music and a champion at that!

LaurenGlezer is soon to launch her first EP. When I speak to her she is at her day job working as a waitress but takes the time to sit on a box at the restaurant and chat with me. Lauren tells me she has never been to Tasmania as yet but is keen to visit and is looking around for a possible gig….perhaps MONA might like to consider inviting her?

Lauren’s musical epiphany occurred in India when she was down with a’ tummy bug’ and as a self-confessed hypochondriac thought if she did recover she would stop wasting time and find a way to share her music with the world.

This desire became clearer to her in studying her dad’s life and the song’This living’ is a tribute to him. Her dad is a lawyer and ‘an incredible man, talented in many areas’ but devoted to his corporate work. One day she managed to drag him away from this work and they attended a movie together. It was the movie’s quote ‘it will be alright in the end and if isn’t then it’s not the end (John Lennon quoted in ‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’).Lauren found this quite profound and turned to her father to discuss it, only to find him asleep, exhausted from work. This was another message to Lauren not to miss any of those profound moments.

In Lauren’s video clip to ‘This Living’ you will see a little girl enjoying every moment and with her ‘chalks’ bringing’ a breath of colour to the world’. Which is just what Lauren is doing in her music.

HerEP launch will be with her band and support acts that’inspire her’ and Lauren’s search for meaning continues in the title of her EP ‘Searching for Tall’ which is all about finding the ‘tall’ in yourself.

Lauren will be launching her single ‘This Living’ on 12 September and her EP ‘Searching for Tall’ on September 20 at the Wesley Anne at 250 High St, Northcote, Melbourne.
