Labor Leader Bryan Green said today the Liberals’ commitment to move Mineral Resources Tasmania (MRT) to Burnie has been exposed as a half-baked election promise.
“The Government has admitted it’s not even looking for a building to house MRT in Burnie and won’t be moving all the staff or the whole department,” Mr Green said.
“Under questioning in Budget Estimates today, Resources Minister Paul Harriss could not say how many employees would be relocated to the North-West or when it would actually happen.
“Mr Harriss confirmed the core sample library will remain in Hobart but not how many jobs that involved.
“For all the Liberals’ talk, the relocation of Mineral Resources to Burnie seems no closer.
“All Mr Harriss will say is that it might happen sometime over the next four years.
“The promise was a vote winner for Adam Brooks but the electors of Braddon have once again been misled by the Liberals.”
