POP UP THEATRE // CREATING ONE-OFF PERFORMANCES EACH SHOW
Loud Mouth Theatre Company will embrace the magic of pop up theatre for their new production of ‘Shakespeare’s greatest masterpiece’, HAMLET: HEADS OR TAILS, at Hobart’s newest venue Pop Up Theatre 1 this month.
A first for Hobart, this unconventional venue is a re-purposed shop front in Murray Street promising a unique theatre experience and added excitement for theatre goers. It will only operate for two seasons, before being demolished.
Actors and audiences will be challenged with an unprecedented concept.
The show was born from a desire to take a fresh and energetic approach to a classic by adding a big dose of chance to the mix. This unique concept demands each actor learn two roles.
At the beginning of each performance, the actors flip a coin to decide which role they will play. There are sixty four possible casting combinations!
“We are creating an exclusive, one-off performance each night which is a rare gift for both actors and audiences. And what better way to celebrate and highlight the transient nature of theatre than in a venue like this?!”” said Producer, Katie Robertson.
This production is the second enterprise from Tasmanian newcomers Loud Mouth Theatre Company, who burst onto the scene earlier this year with their kinky hit ‘Venus in Fur’ by David Ives.
The cast and crew is a mix of Tasmanian theatre veterans and fresh-faced newcomers. MATT WILSON is director, and Loud Mouth’s own CAMPBELL MACKENZIE and MAEVE MACGREGOR lead the cast as the Hamlet/Laertes duo.
Loud Mouth is young, fresh and feisty. They explore new and interesting ways of presenting very old and very new theatre, and of engaging both new audience members and seasoned theatre goers. These guys certainly aren’t going anywhere in a hurry!
