I encourage Tasmanians to join me in supporting the third National Op Shop Week which runs until Sunday 31 August, 2014.
Today I donated clothes to St Vincent de Paul Society’s Vinnies Op Shop in Argyle Street, Hobart, which is one of over 100 op shops across Tasmania.
An initiative of the ‘Do Something’ charity in partnership with the National Association of Charitable Recycling Organisations (NACRO), the awareness week seeks to boost donations to meet growing demand, increase op shop sales and recognise the tremendous work of the volunteers and staff dedicated to supporting the important work of charities in our community.
A significant amount of community programs run by charities are funded by the income derived from charity op shops.
The week before Spring is an ideal time to clean out your wardrobe of unwanted items that are suitable for donation, give them a second life and help people in need at the same time.
To find an op shop or donation bin in your area go to OpShopWeek.com.au.
