TasWater’s owner representative group have today congratulated the TasWater
Board and Management for a successful first year in delivering essential water and
sewerage services to the Tasmanian community.
Chief Owners Representative, Tony Foster said the group strongly backed the
financial management of TasWater in effectively transitioned to one state-wide
provider under a new management and operating model.
“TasWater has exceeded budget expectations, with the reforms of the previous year
delivering savings of $5M this year,” Cr Foster said.
“I commend TasWater for its strong performance during what have been, at times,
challenging reforms.
“TasWater is delivering the outcomes we envisaged when we took the decision to
create a single state-wide organisation.
“This restructure has set the business up to be able to continue to deliver positives
results into the future.
“The appropriate use of external resources to ensure a quick transition has ensured
services to customers have continued uninterrupted and has delivered real savings
which means greater investment in the community.
“TasWater is getting the balance right and the Tasmanian community is the real
winner,” he said.
Mr Foster said decisions, backed by council owners, such as those to address
headworks charges and to make pricing fairer showed TasWater was serious about
the important job ahead.
“This work is not only ensuring the Tasmanian community gets the services they
deserve at a fair and reasonable price, but it is supporting future development in
Tasmania,” Cr Foster said.
“TasWater is making a real difference to facilitate economic growth and jobs for
Tasmania,” he said.
