Tonight I will be taking part in the annual Sleeping out for the Salvos fundraising event.
Sleeping out for the Salvos is an annual event in Hobart which raises funds for The Salvation Army.
Participants sleep rough for one night to raise funds to help those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
The funds help The Salvation Army to continue their frontline work with homeless people in Hobart and provide support, programs and advocacy for Tasmanians who do not have a home or are in danger of becoming homeless.
Sleeping out for the Salvos was first held in Hobart in 2009. Each year community leaders participate and fundraise to assist the Salvation Army in their fantastic work to help those less fortunate. This year’s event remembers those who have died on the streets or are vulnerable and suffering this winter.
Tackling homelessness and increasing the supply of affordable housing is a key priority for the Liberal Government.
The Government provides financial support to the Salvation Army and a range of other organisations to provide emergency accommodation and supported housing around Tasmania.
We’ve also started work on a State Affordable Housing Strategy which will provide a clear framework for the next decade around home ownership, affordable rental, public and community housing, and crisis accommodation.
You can help to support the Salvation Army by sponsoring the participants in this year’s Sleeping out for the Salvos. To donate please visit
