Dani Smarrelli is a fairly unique name and so too, is the name ‘Nussy’ (Dani’s performance name), true to both her names she is one of the most unique musicians of recent times.
I spoke to Nussy recently about her upcoming EP and its launch in Adelaide and Melbourne for which she couldn’t wait’ as the songs ‘hadn’t been performed live before’.
Nussy has only been to Tassie once, a couple of years ago, when she was in the group ‘True Love’ as a backing vocalist, at that time she visited MONA and she says ‘it was cool and she ‘really, really loved it’.
Fingers crossed, Nussi says, a visit to Tasmania is not too far in the future.
Nussy says her performing name came about from a random association in a childhood nickname that’s origin is now lost.
Nussy has been playing piano since she was 4 years old but originally thought she would write for other people rather than perform herself but discovered at 16 or 17 she loved singing and since then has been committed to singing 100 per cent.
Nussy’s new single ‘Dizzy’ in which Nussy rotates us through a fashion feast as she focuses on the rotation that too often we make young people go through, putting them on a revolving disc to finding a career and a successful future instead of enjoying the here and now. Sometimes we need to stop running around in circles and take perhaps a different and un-grooved road.
Some special words are for Nussy’s own parents who have been supportive of her and the highs and lows of a creative career. They did encourage her to finish high school first, before launching into her musical career.
Something that really stands out in Nussy’s video clips is her sense of fashion and how this fashion trend setter is confident in her choices and makes both gold and white lipstick look cool.
