The Liberal Government believes it is important that we as a community support those who served our country, reflect on their service, and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Today I welcome the Commonwealth Government’s support for the construction of a Flame of Remembrance at the Hobart Cenotaph, as announced today by the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs and the Minister Assisting the Prime Minister, Senator Michael Ronaldson.
The Flame of Remembrance will serve as an enduring reminder of the service and sacrifice of the men and women of the Australian Defence Force, both past and present.
The Flame of Remembrance will be the centrepiece of the Liberal Government’s centenary of ANZAC commemorations, which encompasses all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations in which Australians have been involved.
The Liberal Government remains a strong supporter of Tasmania’s 11,000 war veterans and ex-service personnel.
Guy Barnett, Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier
