The Liberal Government is committed to reforming our health system and improving health outcomes for all Tasmanians.

As part of our commitment, we are expanding services at BreastScreen Tasmania so women aged between 70 and 74 can now receive free breast cancer screening mammograms.

Under a part of a new Partnership Agreement with the Federal Government, the target age group is being expanded from women aged 50 to 69 to include women aged 70 to 74.

The risk of developing breast cancer increases with age and this expansion will deliver more an extra 9,000 screening services over the next four years.

This program will deliver improved health outcomes for Tasmanian woman and complements improved levels of access to breast screening in rural and remote areas, including a new mobile breast screening clinic in the North-West.

Since opening in 1993, BreastScreen Tasmania has performed more than 483,000 screening mammograms with almost 2,000 women diagnosed.

Regular mammograms are a vital part of early detection which can improve the chance of survival. BreastScreen Tasmania urges women to have regular screening done every two years.
