The Liberal Government will provide $68,795 to the Glenorchy City Council for a major upgrade of Collinsvale Oval.
The funding is being delivered through Sport and Recreation Tasmania’s 2014 Major Grants Program.
Today I met with Glenorchy Mayor Stuart Slade, Council staff and Knights Cricket Club President Stephen Burk to discuss their plans for the oval.
In its current condition, participation is limited and can only be used sparingly, mainly by the Knights who call Collinsvale Oval their home ground.
The grant will be used to resurface and improve drainage to the oval, build two practice wickets and fence the perimeter of the ground.
These improvements will grow participation to meet strong community demand, including schools, sporting clubs and community groups from Collinsvale and the surrounding area, as well as improve safety at the ground.
Sport and Recreation Tasmania’s Major Grants Program provides grants of between $15,000 and $80,000 for the benefit of sport and recreation activities in Tasmania, which in turn deliver social and health benefits to communities.
