The Liberal Government is committed to a target of attracting 1.5 million visitors to Tasmania per year by 2020.
The latest Tasmanian Visitor Survey figures show we are well on the way with a 14 per cent increase in visitors and a record number of Chinese tourists.
That’s around 1.06 million interstate and international visitors coming to the state in the year to March 2014.
Tasmania is fast becoming a must-see destination for Chinese tourists, with more tourists travelling from China than any other country.
A record 18,900 Chinese tourists holidayed in Tasmania in the year to March, almost a 50 per cent increase compared to the previous year.
Tourists are also spending more while holidaying on our island, with expenditure increasing to $1.7 billion, a 17 per cent boost.
The Asian market is key to Tasmania’s economic prosperity and the potential for growth in our competitive strengths, especially tourism.
