The Liberal Government has a long term plan for the future of Tasmania including rebuilding essential services such as police.
Tasmania Police deserve first class facilities and Glenorchy’s new police station is taking shape to deliver this.
Officers will move into their new $3.9 million headquarters in September.
Along with Commissioner of Police Darren Hine, and other senior police officers, I was pleased today to personally review the significant progress that has occurred on the new Glenorchy Divisional Headquarters.
The Tasmania Police Marine, Search and Rescue unit, with its 24 officers and a number of vessels, vehicles and all their equipment, have moved into facilities at the new station.
This will provide a considerable saving to the police budget as the Marine, Search and Rescue unit formerly occupied a leased site in Federal St.
In all, the new Glenorchy Police Station will house 90 police officers and six state service employees, and will cover almost a hectare, with some 1000 square metres left vacant for potential growth in the future.
It is great to see that the new station is so close to the Glenorchy CBD, which provides the opportunity for police to continue to develop strong links with the local community.
The Liberal Government is delivering on our commitment to restore officer numbers cut under the former Labor-Green Government, with 108 more police to be put on the beat.
