A Lindisfarne quarry operator that invented an award-winning solution to safely servicing conveyor belts and rollers is sharing its design to help prevent injuries and save lives.

Hanson’s quarry won the Safety Innovation category in the Cement Concrete and Aggregates Australia (CCAA) Tasmanian Environment Health and Safety Awards for its roller frame invention.

The business will now go on to contest the national CCAA awards.

What is most commendable is that it entered the awards to make this life-saving invention known so that it can be adopted, at no cost, around the country.

This is a great example of the innovation that Tasmanian industry is capable of, and also of its commitment to improving the safety of all workers.

The deceptively simple roller frame invention is transferable to any industry where elevated conveyors are used, and can be fabricated from welding shop supplies.

The Tasmanian Government is proud to be involved in the CCAA awards, with officers of Mineral Resources Tasmania, the Environmental Protection Authority and Worksafe Tasmania volunteering their time to judge the entries.

We wish Hanson’s well in the national awards.
