The Liberal Government has stepped in to extend funding to Tasmanian emergency food relief providers which had been due to be cut on 30 June by the former Labor-Green Government.
The previous Labor-Green Government had allocated no funding in the forward estimates for emergency food relief programs.
We have offered new and additional funding of $87,000 to three organisations – Foodbank, SecondBite and Produce to the People – to 31 December 2014.
Media comments that the additional funding is only to write a business plan are incorrect. Organisations can use that funding to deliver services up to 31 December 2014.
It is very pleasing that all three organisations have signed this extension to the funding agreement. We look forward to working with Foodbank, SecondBite and Produce to the People to assist them to become more self-sufficient by the end of this year.
The Liberal Government’s support for emergency food relief providers is in stark contrast to the previous Labor-Green Government.
