Today Bryan Green and the Labor Party have again proved that they are incapable of contributing to serious political debate.

Mr Green’s bizarre comments about TT-Line fares, based on his “simple” analysis of fares on just two days this year, demonstrate nothing other than that TT-Line prices have always fluctuated on a regular basis, no different to the airlines with which they compete.

Strangely, his analysis omits a special currently advertised by TT Line of $299 for a twin cabin for two and a car. No doubt this would not quite fit with his storyline as it represents a significant saving to the prices quoted for either April or June. ($299 for a twin cabin plus car is a $168 or more than 30 per cent saving on standard fares).

The Liberal Government remains committed to our election promise which includes our expectation that the average fare will be able to be reduced by up to 20 per cent within the four years of Government.

We have asked the TT-Line to prepare a business case which will meet this objective, and we look forward to receiving this in the coming months.

The Liberal Government will make travel on the Spirit of Tasmania cheaper and more attractive to tourists as part of our plan to grow our tourism industry to 1.5 million visitors annually by 2020.
