After being hailed for their blistering performance at Triple J’s One Night Stand after-party, buzz-band White Summer are excited to announce the release of their menacing rock single ‘Smoke Screen’ on 6 June 2014. To celebrate, the Melbourne four-piece will hit the road for a 12-date tour across Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Gold Coast, Hobart and more – including two sold-out shows with band-of the-moment, DMA’s.
There’s been a lot of love out there for White Summer. The quartet’s performance at the aforementioned Triple J One Night Stand after-party lured a sweaty, mosh collective of 2000+ people, along with notable shout outs on air from the station’s presenters. Since the show, the band’s online follower count has skyrocketed, and their inbox has being inundated with messages from fans and media alike.
Their new single ‘Smoke Screen’ is an embracing tune for lovers of rock, packed with stomping beats, a rollicking rhythm, distorted guitar tones and a whole lot of swagger – further heightened by Jimmy Stanfield’s commanding vocals.
White Summer formed when Jimmy Stanfield (lead vocalist) and Michael Barnsley (guitarist) started playing music together with their close high school friends in Victoria’s Phillip Island. After moving to Melbourne several years ago as a three-piece, they worked hard laying their ground in the local city music scene. Eventually they moved on to recruit their current bassist, Anthony Zielke.
This saw the completion of a successful Double A-Side, their 2013 EP What I’ve Been Waiting For, the reaction to which saw the band tour nationally in December and January of this year, including mammoth shows at The Espy on NYE and St.Kilda Festival, while also recruiting their fourth and newest member, Alex Zielke (drums) to bring about a quartet with an exciting and powerful live show.
Now, White Summer are back – and in a huge way. After having previously played with artists such as Kingswood and The Delta Riggs, the ‘Smoke Screen’ tour will see the band share stages with local legends DMA’s, Stonefield, Ninjas and Cherry Dolls.
