The uber-wealthy Australians have been very successful in getting their policies accepted by governments.

What will their policies for Northern Development of Australia mean for population growth or climate change?

Gina Rinehart is Australia’s most controversial mining magnate, her provocative views have been the target of repeated ridicule. But we can’t simply dismiss Gina as some uber-wealthy kook – she has secured a staggering political and economic influence on our nation. This film seeks to document the extent of this influence and what it means for everyday Australians.

Gina’s got more cash than Oprah or the Queen – in 2012 she was the richest woman in the world! She owns 20% of Fairfax (Sydney Morning Herald, The Age) and 10% of Channel 10. Gina openly opposes the carbon and mining taxes and has a close relationship with a number of Australia’s leading politicians (looking at you, Barnaby). Is also a poet!

In 2012, Mrs Rinehart wrote a poem, she titled ‘Our Future’ which she mounted on an iron ore boulder and had erected outside a Morley shopping centre in WA.

The poem outlines her vision for Australia, it includes; cutting environmental regulation, cutting taxes on mining, welcoming ‘short term’ foreign labour to Australia. Rinehart’s supported notorious climate change denialists, has been vocal about cutting welfare and has even advocated for cuts to the minimum wage.
