New Members Sought for Disability Advisory Body
The Liberal Government is committed to rebuilding essential services and providing a voice for people with a disability.
I urge Tasmanians interested in issues affecting people with disability, their families and carers to nominate for an influential advisory committee providing advice to the State Government.
The Minister’s Disability Advisory Committee (MDAC) provides independent advice to the Minister from the perspective of people living with disability, family members and disability support providers. Membership of MDAC is balanced according to region and gender.
Applications for several three year positions on the Committee are now open. Interested people with knowledge or experience of issues important to people with disability are invited to apply.
Becoming a Committee member is a very effective way for people with an interest in the disability sector to have input into decision making that affects them.
Most importantly, people with disability are encouraged to apply to ensure that MDAC is truly represented by the voice of people with disability.
Today I met with the current members of MDAC. MDAC is currently providing advice on several critical issues for people with a disability, including a successful implementation of the National Disability Insurance Scheme trial to ensure that people with disability gain the benefit of becoming participants in the NDIS over the next five years.
The Liberal Government is fully committed to the NDIS and its full roll-out in Tasmania.
Advertisements for the vacant three year positions on the Committee appeared in Tasmanian daily papers on Saturday 7 June 2014. Applications close at 5pm on 20 June 2014. For more information on applying please visit http://www.dhhs.tas.gov.au/disability/ministers_disability_advisory_committee_mdac
