I am very pleased to congratulate all the Tasmanians who have been honoured for their outstanding service to our community in the 2014 Queen’s Birthday Honours List.
The 18 Tasmanians recognised today include well-known personalities and community leaders, as well as unsung heroes from across the state.
I would like to pay special tribute to The Honourable Ewan Crawford, who has been made a Companion of the Order of Australia (AC) for eminent service to the judiciary and to the law, to the development of the legal profession, to tertiary education, and to the community of Tasmania.
Dr Ian Allison and Dr Dan Norton have been made Officers of the Order of Australia (AO), Mrs Constance Alomes and Councillor John Watson have been made Members of the Order of Australia (AM) and a further 13 deserving Tasmanians have been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM).
Recognition in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List is one of the highest acknowledgements of community service an individual in Australia can receive. On behalf of all Tasmanians I offer the recipients congratulations on their outstanding achievement.
