The new Liberal Government remains committed to delivering power price relief for Tasmanian households and business.
Under Labor and the Greens, electricity prices increased by more than 65 per cent in 7 years.
The new Liberal Government is determined to make double digit power price increases year on year a thing of the past.
The Government is pleased to note that as a consequence of the Federal Government’s decision to abolish the carbon tax, Tasmanian households and businesses are likely to experience an immediate reduction in their power prices from 1 July 2014.
The Tasmanian Economic regulator is expected to make its final determination of the amount of the price reduction next week.
The Liberals have long maintained Tasmanians were unfairly hurt by the carbon tax despite the state’s large renewable energy base.
This tax ripped more than a hundred million dollars from households and business and many Tasmanians were left rightly asking why they were paying for carbon on their bills when the electricity they use us generated by carbon free hydro dams and wind farms.
