“The huge increase in child-on-child sex abuse in Australian schools will feature on ABC1’s 7:30 tonight. Many parents are horrified, but there’s something we can do immediately to curb the trend,” FamilyVoice research officer Ros Phillips said today.
UK Prime Minister David Cameron has rightly pointed out the silent attack on our children’s innocence: pornography.
In February, a 13-year-old in the UK forced his eight-year-old sister to take part in sexual activity after viewing porn. A Canberra study of children who had sexually assaulted other children found that pornography exposure was a significant trigger. UK teachers say students are watching porn on mobile phones during break times.
In November 2013, the UK government took action, requiring UK internet service providers to provide filters with ‘on’ as the default.
“Counselling abusers and victims after the abuse is important – but prevention is better than uncertain cure,” Ros Phillips said.
“We need internet filtering at ISP level!”
