RESIDENTS OPPOSED TO THE CABLE CAR (ROCC) QUESTION CABLE CAR CONSORTIUM
Hobart, Monday, 19th May 2014: Research released today (Doiwnload below) by ROCC (Residents Opposed to the Cable Car) has raised serious questions about the robustness of the proposed Mt Wellington cable car consortium led by Adrian Bold.
The three companies identified by Mr Bold as the International Team to finance the project – BullWheel IC3, Creative Urban Projects and Cable Car Consultants – appear to be owned and operated by one man, Mr Steven Dale. Mr Dale also appears not to have funded, built or operated any previous cable cars.
BullWheel International Cablecar Corp was incorporated on 8 April 2013.2 Cable Car Consultants was formed on 13 June 2013.3 Creative Urban Projects was formed in 2013 but does not appear to be a registered company. The Mount Wellington Cable Car Feasibility Assessment was undertaken by Creative Urban Projects.
“Eight months prior to incorporation of BullWheel as a company, Adrian Bold stated the cable car investment had been locked in and secured,” said Ted Cutlan, spokesperson for ROCC.
“This information calls into question the claim that the project has ‘secured investment’ three times over, an amount of more than $111 million. We are concerned this project is wasting the time and energy of the Hobart City Council, the Mt Wellington Trust, Cascade Brewery and the people of Hobart.”
“Hobart ratepayers should be wary of being left to pay for this cable car gamble,” said Mr Cutlan. “We certainly do not want it turning into a financial nightmare for Hobart ratepayers. Clear answers are needed from the proponent about the financial backing and viability of this project.
“Like all Tasmanians, we have a deep love for Mt Wellingotn and value its natural beauty and want the Mountain to be accessible to all Tasmanians. In this budget-constrained time, we do not support a poorly thought-out infrastructure project that Government and ratepayers may end up having to pay for.
“We do not want to be left with a cable car white elephant for years to come,” Mr Cutlan concluded.
