I am extremely pleased to see stabilisation work on the Penitentiary Precinct at the Port Arthur Historic Site is progressing on budget and on time.
This iconic building is arguably Australia’s most significant convict ruin and a key part of the Convict World Heritage Listing of sites across Australia.
The State Liberal Government is committed to growing the numbers of tourists to Tasmania to 1.5 million by 2020 creating up to 8-thousand new jobs and that is why we are investing in key visitor hot spots such at Port Arthur.

This crucial investment, along with $3 million in funding from the State Government, will ensure this historic site is still standing after another 150 years and will continue to attract tourists from around the world.
