The Liberal Government has established a specialist Biosecurity Division delivering on its election commitment to strengthen the State’s frontline against the threat of exotic weeds, pests and diseases.
Biosecurity Tasmania, within the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment, aligns all the State’s biosecurity resources, from quarantine, to diagnostic services, community awareness and invasive species within the one section to protect Tasmania’s primary production, economy, natural environment and our Tasmanian Island Brand.
The Hodgman Liberal Government is getting on with the job of delivering our long-term plan for the future of Tasmania.
Our Plan includes building on our competitive strengths to create jobs.
The strong reputation of our primary industries is based on our pest and disease free status and our clean natural image.
Our Government is committed to protecting this reputation by having a biosecurity frontline in place that recognises its significance, the threats posed to it and the ability to respond.
The bringing together of all the specialist skills and experience in biosecurity into one section will enable a more cohesive approach to address the threat from introduced pests and diseases to our agricultural industries, aquaculture industries, marine areas, as well as the environment.
As part of its new structure, Biosecurity Tasmania will review the legislation within its remit – a project that will include extensive consultation with stakeholders.
