The Tasmanian Greens today announced their $11.5 million policy to clean up the Tamar River.
Tasmanian Greens Member for Bass Kim Booth, said that cleaning up the Tamar is pivotal to transforming Launceston into the economic engine for Tasmania’s north.
“The Greens believe that raw sewerage must be stopped from entering the Tamar River so that Launceston can take full advantage of its picturesque location,” said Mr Booth.
“Restoring the Tamar to a clean, healthy and safe river will improve Launceston’s liveability and boost our local economy.”
“The Greens are committing $11.5 million to TasWater to immediately tender out the contracts to commence work.”
“This project is shovel ready and we believe the contract should be released in tranches to ensure Tasmanian businesses can be competitive in the tender process.”
“This project can start now and employ out of work NBN contractors, displaced forestry road contractors as well as local plumbers and apprentices.”
“This is a win-win for our local businesses and economy.”
