Clive Palmer’s Palmer United Party is promising to pursue changes to the GST formula to advantage Western Australia which will mean a major hit on Tasmania, Australian Greens Leader Christine Milne said today.

“Tasmania deserves its fair share of GST,” Senator Milne said.

“Palmer United Party can’t have it both ways, campaigning in Western Australia for a GST change but not being open about what that will mean for Tasmanian electors.

“Changes to the GST will lead to job losses of Tasmanian nurses, teachers and police and Palmer will work in the Senate with Tony Abbott and the Liberals to make it happen.

“The Tasmanian environment also can’t afford Palmer United Party given news that Palmer’s nickel refinery has been dumping toxic waste water into the Great Barrier Reef and he’s now threatening to sue the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority if it continues its ‘obstructionist’ behaviour of trying to protect the Reef from his pollution.

“With the Liberals and Labor 100% behind a polluting pulp mill in Tasmania, it’s clear that Palmer United Party’s leader, with his track record in Queensland, won’t prioritise the protection of the Tasmanian marine environment.”
