Deputy Premier Bryan Green today released legislation which the State Government will introduce to Parliament next week underpinning the pulp mill permit.
Mr Green said the Pulp Mill Assessment Amendment Bill 2014 had been drafted in response to a request from receivers Korda Mentha to give potential purchasers of the pulp mill permit added certainty.
“The State Government is determined to give the pulp mill project every chance of going ahead.
“If passed, this Bill will provide added certainty to the validity and strength of the pulp mill permit and maximise the chance downstream processing our world class plantation resource in Tasmania.
“We want to see a pulp mill with the toughest environmental guidelines in the world processing and value-adding Tasmanian timber grown and harvested in line with the guidelines consumers demand.
“I look forward to introducing this Bill to the House next week,” Mr Green said.
