Chair of the Hobart City Council Finance, Audit and Superannuation Committees, Alderman Philip Cocker, today announced his candidature for the seat of Denison as part of the Greens ticket with sitting member, Cassie O’Connor.

“I believe strongly that Tasmania is on the cusp of an economic renaissance. Great days are ahead of us if, and only if, the right decisions are made now. I want to take part in those decisions,” Alderman Cocker said.

We live in a beautiful place with an extraordinary array of assets and opportunities. A fantastic future is ours if we approach it positively and leave the negativity and divisive projects of the past.

I say to the electorate of Denison that if they are listening to negativity and political complaint then they are not listening to the right people to elect. Have a close look at the people we revere as Tasmanian success stories and they have all approached their passion with enormous positivity.

If we can elect people with a truly positive, passionate belief in Tasmania’s future by encouraging all Tasmanians to follow their passion with confidence and positivity, then we will succeed.

The first signs have emerged of this future in two key sectors of the Arts and the Tourism industries. Both these sectors are growing, providing jobs and delivering to Tasmania because passionate belief is held by Tasmanians in those sectors that we have something wonderful here and enormous potential. This is possible across all sectors of the Tasmanian economy consistent with our clean, Green values.

I am proud to stand with Cassie whose record as a Minister is second to none when you examine her achievements.
