Sunday January 12th, 2014 – Melbourne, Australia —

Sea Shepherd Australia’s ship Bob Barker reported this morning that the first Australian Government aerial surveillance flight has taken place. Captain Peter Hammarstedt says the Australian Customs plane was overhead for about 8 minutes just after 9am (AEDT) and came low enough to be clearly identified (photo available on request). No contact was made with the plane.

The three Sea Shepherd Australia ships Bob Barker, Steve Irwin and Sam Simon are engaged in a tactical contest with the Five Ships of the Japanese whale killing fleet in the internationally recognised whale sanctuary in the Southern Ocean south of Australia. Last week Sea Shepherd Australia stopped the whaling and scattered the Japanese fleet.
