Start the New Year with a BANG, with BABOOM!
Come together to create new sounds and rhythms using African Djembe drums and ukulele this summer with visiting artists Shon and Svet of BA BOOM. Summer in Devonport is beautiful so what better way to experience it than making music by the sea.

This summer The Gallery has planned another fun filled summer program of workshops and events for all ages. The Gallery has employed two fantastically talented musicians who travel far and wide to deliver dynamic and inclusive programs for all ages.

Shon & Svet of BA BOOM are two accomplished musicians and specialist teachers who deliver expansive, music-based development programs to remote communities and schools around South Australia and the NT Central Desert lands. The Gallery is proud to bring BA BOOM to Devonport to deliver two fantastic music based programs for the community of Devonport.

The two workshops on offer are:
5 DAY RHYTHM & DRUMMING WORKSHOP
6-10 JANUARY 2014
10:30 -2pm with 30 min lunch break
$15 / $20 MEMBERS PER DAY
There will be a public performance from the drumming workshop on FRIDAY 10th from 6pm, everyone is welcome to attend. This will be a free event held at the Sound Shell, Mersey Bluff.

3 DAY UKELELE WORKSHOP
13-15 JANUARY 2014
10-1:30 with a 30 minute lunch break, if you have your own ukulele, please bring it along.
$15 / $20 MEMBERS PER DAY

Summer Life Drawing
5 Week Program

Join experienced artist Michael Muruste for a 5 week intensive life drawing class. The aim of these sessions is to give participants the opportunity to develop their skill and broaden their approach to life drawing. Participants will be encouraged to experiment with different styles and materials. Spaces are limited so please contact the Gallery to book a place.

Early Years Program for Children Aged 1-3 Years

The 1,2,3…Create program aims to uses music, art and sensory play to create a safe, fun, educational and stimulating program for children aged 1 – 3 years with their carers and parents. The program consists of one session per month, each session is tailored to the different exhibitions on display.
The Devonport Regional Gallery employs professional artists and facilitators to conduct programs that respond to the exhibitions on display, thus enriching the experience of contemporary art and providing a creative outlet for the community of Devonport.
The Gallery has employed registered music therapist, Alexandra Morse to conduct the program. After many years, Alexandra has gained clinical experience in a range of areas including early intervention, parent-child attachment, residential aged care and has developed a private practice focusing on working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Alexandra is passionate about using drama, music, dance and visual art to foster creativity and imagination of young children.
