The State’s IGA retailer network has again demonstrated its support of Tasmanian charities
and community based organisations, with donations amounting to more than $200,000 in
2013.

Tasmanian Independent Retailers CEO, Grant Hinchcliffe, said making up part of this overall
figure, he was proud to today announce $75,000 in donations to various organisations.

“As part of our commitment to Tasmanians, $50,000 will be distributed between the St
Vincent de Paul Society, City Mission, Anglicare, Australian Red Cross and the Benevolent
Society to assist in the vital work they do for those in need of food, warmth, shelter and
comfort,” Mr Hinchcliffe said.

“We are also proud to announce that the Make-A-Wish Foundation will receive $20,000
towards granting the wishes of children diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions.

“Legacy, an organisation that provides personal support and welfare for the dependents of
Australia’s deceased veterans, will also receive $5,000 to continue its vital work in
Tasmania.”

Mr Hinchcliffe said other donations throughout the year saw $30,000 in food vouchers
provided to the Tasmanian Bush Fire Appeal.

“We also donated $30,000 to Give Me 5 for Kids, an organisation that provides local
children’s hospital wards with much needed equipment to care for sick children,” he said.

“This year I was also lucky enough to raise more than $17,000 as part of the Vinnies CEO
Sleepout.”

Mr Hinchcliffe said there were 85 IGA outlets throughout Tasmania, all of whom were
extremely proud to support many of the worthy organisations that operated in their local
communities.

“IGA’s donations are believed to be one of the largest public giving campaigns in the State
and it’s our belief that as the retailers are supported by their local communities, it is
important that we give back to them accordingly and show our support,” he said.

Representatives from the various recipient organisations will be joined by Mr
Hinchcliffe, who will present the donations on behalf of IGA retailers statewide at a
morning tea function in Launceston today at Tasmanian Independent Retailers office,
8 Translink Avenue, Western Junction.
