Lowe 2011 Mudgee Blue Shiraz 4

Lowe 2011 Mudgee Blue Shiraz

Region: Mudgee NSW | $30

Long-established Mudgee winemaker David Lowe produced this dry red from grapes grown on a vineyard planted many moons ago by the Roth family, who pioneered viticulture and winemaking in the district when they founded Craigmoor Wines.

Dark berry fruits and spice are typical warm-climate shiraz characters and they are present in abundance, though there’s also a fine line of blackcurrant from the cabernet sauvignon and some nice background oak.

It’s very much a traditional Mudgee red in style, with rich, full flavours providing great satisfaction on the palate, but modern winemaking techniques have helped fashion a wine that is soft and immediately drinkable on release. It doesn’t demand cellaring as many of the district’s past reds have, but it will certainly reward those with patience.
