Legal action has been launched in the Federal Court against Hydro Tasmania’s planned $2 billion wind farm on King Island.
The No TasWind Farm Group is opposing the company’s plans to build 200 wind turbines on the island.
It lodged a writ in the Federal Court late yesterday.
The group claims Hydro did not gain broad community support before pushing ahead with a feasibility study, which the company says is in the preliminary stages.
Hydro had indicated it wanted a 60 per cent positive result from a survey of locals earlier this year before it proceeded.
Nearly 59 per cent of people indicated support.
The group wants the company to be restrained from saying that it has obtained a social licence for it the project.
