The Tasmanian Greens today pursued the Resources Minister for details regarding Shree Minerals’ bond conditions for the third day in a row.
Greens Mining spokesperson, Paul O’Halloran MP, said that the Tasmanian public deserved to know that they were not being exposed to liability considering the trail of financial and human devastation that Pike River Coal Ltd had left in its wake in New Zealand.
“It is disappointing that after being questioned three successive times this week, Minister Green was unable to provide specific details regarding the bond and remediation conditions of the Shree Minerals’ mine lease,” said Mr O’Halloran.
“It is disappointing that despite asking the Minister on Tuesday, again on Wednesday, and again today, he was unable to shed any light on the degree to which the Tasmanian taxpayer is protected should Shree encounter financial or operational difficulties.”
“This area was recommended for National Heritage listing by the Australian Heritage Commission and the public have a right to know the mining bond amount, and remediation plans for the site.”
“The Greens welcome Mr Green’s offer to brief us on the details surrounding Shree’s lease, but as a Minister he should be prepared to stand up in the House and put the facts on the public record,” Mr O’Halloran said.
