Australian Greens health spokesperson, Senator Richard Di Natale, today joined NSW lead Senate candidate, Cate Faehrmann, to announce that the Greens will introduce Dying With Dignity legislation into the Federal Parliament.

“The Greens will put ‘Dying with Dignity’ firmly on the national agenda,” said Senator Di Natale

“More than 75 per cent of Australians support voluntary euthanasia and the fact that the old parties won’t touch it shows just how out of touch they are with average Australians.

“Many Australians would take comfort in knowing that they have some control over the way in which they die. Only the Greens are standing up for a caring society that gives people that choice.

“The Greens will move for a Senate Inquiry into voluntary euthanasia with a view to introducing ‘Dying with Dignity’ legislation into the Federal Parliament for the first time.”

Australian Greens lead Senate candidate for New South Wales, Cate Faehrmann, has previously introduced for Dying with Dignity laws in the News South Wales Parliament.

“I have spent two years carefully researching voluntary euthanasia laws and hearing stories of Australians who are forced to suffer terrible pain from terminal illness,” said Ms Faehrmann.

“These people are crying out simply for some control over the way their lives end and the majority of Australians believe that they should have it.

“If I’m elected in September I will be a voice in Canberra for all those Australians who want compassionate law reform.”
