Australian Greens spokesperson for small business, Senator Peter Whish-Wilson says the Greens’ fully costed 2% tax cut to small businesses would support the companies that really need it in Tasmania. Small businesses employ 106,000 Tasmanians, almost half the island’s labour force.
“The Greens are standing up for the small business sector which is vital for employment in Tasmania,” Senator Whish-Wilson said.
“Supporting small businesses in Tasmania, with a full 2% tax cut, would help to ease the pressure they’re under.
“The Greens’ tax cut is more generous to small businesses than the Coalition’s and it’s more fiscally responsible, costing $1.75 billion over the forward estimates compared to the Coalition’s $5 billion splurge.
“We’re helping small businesses who really need it while the Coalition is pandering to the demands of the big banks and the big miners.
“New, expanding companies are the lifeblood of Tasmania and they need to be looked after.
“Smart, targeted investment in the 600,000 small businesses across the country will help to establish the strong Australian economy of the future.
“The Greens are standing up for small business in Tasmania as we recognise that small businesses are the most valuable contributors to our economy, and will be for the next 20 years,” concluded Senator Whish-Wilson.
Small business was a pillar of Senator Peter Whish-Wilson’s “Tasmania 2030″ report – a vision for a green, dynamic, and prosperous economy released in July.
