PLASTIC BAG BAN CLEARS LAST HURDLE
The Tasmanian Greens today hailed the signing off by the Upper House of the state-wide ban on plastic bags as a triumph for Tasmania’s environment and Tasmania.
“The incredible news for Tasmania is that the plastic bag ban is now law, removing tonnes of toxic plastic from the waste stream, and from our natural environment,”
“This form of plastic pollution has reached even the remotest parts of our island, where it chokes up waterways and kills wildlife, and is particularly deadly to marine animals.”
“It’s a big triumph for our environment and our wildlife, and it’s an achievement the Greens have been campaigning on for a very long time.”
“All Tasmanians should feel proud that we are keeping pace with the rest of the progressive world on this issue.”
“This is the culmination of the campaign by the Greens and the community, which saw a tripartite motion in support of a ban passed by the Assembly in 2010.”
“It will now be in place by the end of this year.”
