Community Workshop: Planning the Future of our Past
Planning the Future of our Past – Managing Cultural Heritage
Free public workshop and information session
10am – 2pm, Saturday 11 May 2013 at the Battery Point Community Hall, 52 Hampden Road

What is happening?
What is planned for the future?
Who is responsible?
How will a new Planning Scheme operate?
When is it likely to be implemented?
How will heritage be affected?

The Battery Point Planning Scheme in 1979 marked a milestone by recognising and protecting the precinct of Battery Point as a townscape, not just individual places.

The tenor of this unique planning scheme recognises the way the place evolved and how it should continue to evolve in order to retain its integrity.

Since 1979 Battery Point has become nationally and internationally recognised as a heritage destination.

The 76ha area was first listed on the Register of the National Estate in 1980 for its: “Defined geographical unity which has ensured its preservation as a homogeneous historic precinct”.

In 2013 a new milestone is approaching. State planning policy and a template planning approach is guiding the development of a new planning scheme for the City of Hobart, incorporating Battery Point.

This workshop is designed to help community members, residents and the heritage sector understand the implications of the proposed changes for heritage areas across Hobart.

Entry is free. To register … text or phone 0435 030 859 or use the form on our website at www.batterypointhall.org.au.
