“Julie Collins should give up the soundbites, ditch the mudslinging that typifies contemporary Labor and concentrate on her electorate. Criticising the state government doesn’t cut it”, said the Greens’ Federal candidate for Franklin, Dr Rosalie Woodruff.

“Ms Collins has attacked the Cabinet position on the Metro dispute, despite it being a Cabinet of predominantly her Labor colleagues, led by Lara Giddings. We know that’s what Labor does but that doesn’t help people in Franklin.”

“Let’s not forget, after years of Labor in Government, it was only with a Greens minister that sustainable transport got its own budget. As a result, public transport has seen unprecedented focus and investment in Tasmania, including in Franklin.”

“As Greens Minister for Sustainable Transport, Nick McKim has provided additional funds for new services in the Channel. As I understand it, the $75,000 for a trial of additional Metro bus services in the Channel is going gangbusters.”

“Minister McKim has also allocated extra funds for Tassielink to improve its services in the same area.”

“This is against the backdrop of historic and absolutely shameful lack of investment in our passenger transport. To turn this around will take years and millions more dollars. But it’s the Greens that have turned it around.”

“Ms Collins is Minister for the Status of Women and for Community Services. Why is isn’t she speaking out against the Labor’s cuts to the single parents benefit? Most of the people who now get $40 less a week are women, and this directly affects them and their children.”

“Why didn’t Ms Collins vote with the Greens in support of the mining super profits tax that Treasury recommended? Instead, she’s now in the shameful situation of supporting a party that is taking money from the poorest people in the community to balance the books, and less from the billion-dollar mining industry.”
