The Federal Environment Minister Tony Burke has approved the Tasmanian Government’s Tarkine Forest Drive, subject to 24 conditions. The $23 million project includes sealing 93 kilometres of existing roads, replacing two bridges, and upgrading tourist facilities. Mr Burke says he has placed strict conditions on the project to protect Tasmanian devils. They include a light-coloured road surface to make animals more visible and rumble strips to warn animals of approaching cars. … Greens M-P Paul O’Halloran believes it is an important project.
